This is the last week of video editing class and nearly end to finalise our final project.
My role in this week is also sound editor and final editing team.
My role is to put the chosen music into the correct place in the movie. And chose the suitable part to show, for example chorus or from the beginning.
Also, Terence, Dino and I were the final editing team. We were responsible in final editing. We had to finalise the video and see were there any mistakes and adjusted the volume.
And we used Final Cut Pro to edit it. We saw and chose the suitable clips.

This is the end of our video editing final project.
We had fun in the process. Hope it is a good production.

In this week, I also focused on choosing suitable music for the movie. In the movie, it's about time. Therefore, I found some music about time. The song that first came out from my mind is "The Scientist" by "Coldplay".
The lyrics which touch me is "Oh let's go back to the start". This lyrics represented the same feeling of the main character who always wanted to travel back to the happiest time and got away from the difficulties. He could always do that until he lost all of his memories.
In the scene which he lost his memory with his friend, I chose "See you again" which represented he did not see a friend for a long time. The melody of it was sad and touching. It could make the feeling of losing this friend was a very sad thing.
Also, we used music in every scenes when the main character started to lose his memory with other people.
In this week, I also focused on making the image of the actor.
This is a mad look of him.
I put eye shadow under his eye big to pretend dark circle.
After that, it is a smart look when he traveled back. This made a big contrast with before.
For the image of time man, I decided to make a smart look for him also, as he is the time of master.
Although these are not very special skills, they matches the feeling and the scenes.

In this week, I focused on designing Foley.
As a sound editor, I know it is good and essential to make sound effect in a movie to make it become more interesting.
I made 3 Foleys in the video.
Firstly, it was the knocking door sound. We recorded the sound of knocking the table and window to pretend the sound of it.

In the last weekend, we went to Tuen Wan Harbor to shoot some of the shots. I am the actress and the one who help imaging, so I had to help other actors and actress to choose their clothes and looks to match the characteristics of that actors and actress that said on the script.
Before the start of shooting, we have made the shot lost. This may help us to make the shooting process faster as we will know what we should shot and do.
And here is the shot list that we prepared.

In this week, we did another commenting again about our film script. After listening the comments that given by the professor, we discovered that our script is quite hard to film it. It is because the meaning and story we are going to express is too psychological. The event: forgetting, time reversing, regrets, happiness, are very hard to show them to the audiences easily. We can just say," I am happy. Oh I forgot that!" It works, but it is too boring and meaningless. So we must use more and more editing and shooting skills to make this more interesting.
Because of this problem, we decided to form a "Part B", to illustrate that the main character is forgetting things. The part b is to show the memories about that category happened before, and play them fast, with special sound effect, which is my duty to find it. And turning the film from colourful to black and white. Which means deleting. And I have thinks of different events to add in part b, to make it more meaningful.
In this weekend, we will start to shoot the scenes again.

This is a "reading week" of the lesson video editing. In this week, our group started to talk about the script of the final project,
About our project, we are going to talk about "Time Machine". It talks about a man who wanted to reverse to the time of happiness.
And in these two weeks, we separated our posts. And I am the actress of the film, act as the girl friend of the main character. Also, of the production team of the film, I am the sound editor and the one who help the actors and actress to make up. This is the main post of me. Although we separated our own post, we also helped each other. For example, we will corporate with each other to design and write the script. And I am the final person to tidy up the script in a better format with WriterDuet.
And for my post, I am the sound editor. I started to find different music to match different scenes and sound effect to match different events in the film. And also find a better way to record the sound. Sometime, the sound equipment is not very good in quality, so we have to record the dialogue by using the V.O. lab in some cases. Or I decided to put the recorder inside the clothes to record the sound.
And in the lesson of week8, we showed the professor our idea and script in WriterDuet. She reminded us that we should use more showing, acting, than saying. Otherwise it will be so bored and meaningless.

This was the sixth lesson of having video editing. We talked about final project. There are lots of production roles. Production roles explained pre-production, breakdown script writing and mini workshop. In production roles, we have writer, director, director of photography, sound editor. These are first stage. In second stage, we have producer, assistant director, assistant editor, actor etc. And all of them are important.
In pre-production, it breaks down story idea, pitch, script, storyboard, costing etc. These are all production plan.
Another thing is, the professor reminded us that places, locations act like actor. Sometime we need is a good location. And different colour tone will have different effect in a movie. For example, in the movie "The Shining". Two girls's clothes were in blue and white, it's used to have a contrast between the blood red and them. Also, Danny's red clothe represent that he is in danger, and have a contest between him and two girls.
About script writing. it is used to build block of your film. If you want to write good script, first you should read more good script. And when we are doing script writing, we should show the emoting by showing it, but not telling.
I hope I can do a great job in my project.

This was the fifth lesson of having video editing. In this lesson, we are going to submit our assignment 1.
In this blog, let me introduce and talk more about my assignment. In my assignment, I used the video clips of the spider. The spider is climbing on a person's body and also the clip of shooting from the spider's vision. And the spider failure. And I mix these video clip with the war.
Spider represent Japan. Which like the flag of Japan in that time, and it's like spider's legs, have lots of military power and ambition. And the spider's climbing on a man's back means it is going to attack other. And finally the target is USA. And I used a bird to represent USA, which is a nation of freedom. And the spider killed the bird. That means Japan attack USA in the Pearl Harbor Incident. And a spider have a large movement it represent Japan felt happy after winning the war. After that USA fight back by using atomic bomb. And I used a video clip of the eagle flying high in the sky, shows how powerful USA is. After failing the bomb, Japan surrendered. And I used the clip of the spider fell down from the table. This represent the failure of Japan.
That's all of my assignment 1. And I hope I can gain more experience of video editing in this assignment, and have improvement next time.

This was the fourth lesson of having video editing. The professor taught us about the theory of editing. our assignment should apply the concept and idea in video cutting. For example, we watched a video clip that a peacock's video clip and a man's video clip keep showing. This shows that he wanted to gain authority and become a king. If we use different animal in the clip, it will show different effect and feeling.
Also, we learnt about something of the software Premiere and photo taking, such as YC graph. Y means brightness vs. dark. C means saturated vs. desecrated. In color temperature, the degree kelvin of light source which gives it a "color". In color balance, white balance setting the source light to read as pure white. White is not totally white, it is the mix of all color. In color correction of a wedding photo, it gives more detail in black, but lose detail in the white. In color grading, when we don't know what's going on in the shadow, will make us feel nervous. That's why film making usually use blue tone in the war, but not orange or red such warm color.
In this lesson, we learnt lots of usage of camera and terms. I will put more attention in them in my daily life.

This was the third lesson of having video editing. In this lesson, we mainly focus on how to use the video editing software, which is Premiere Pro CS6. It is the first time for me to use, so it is a bit hard for me to handle to so fast. but it will be improved.
In the Premiere Pro CS6, there are many important editing tools, such as camera logs, assembly edit, rough cut, view rushes, digitize log, lock picture, fine cut, sound edit, out put, final cut, SFX, etc. Also, in the software, it included, time code, capture, log, bins organization, frame size etc. Cutting and trimming areas represents all cutting tools, simple effects, dissolve and speed etc.
This software, Premiere Pro CS6 is a software that are professional in video editing. In fact, i just learnt how to use the Final Cut Pro before, so this is the good time for me to learn another video editing software.

This was the second lesson of having video editing. In this lesson, professor taught us something about Montage Theory, and some important parts about it. It is a new term and concept for me. I learnt that cutting, editing and motivating are all about Montage Theory. It has a big relationship with our editing job.
Metric, rhythmic, intellectual and tonal is the main part of Montage Theory. Metric is when we cut on set number of frames for each shot transition. Rhythmic represent that the speed of the cutting tools focus the movement through the frame. Intellectual is a parallel cut. Tonal is about is the emotional meaning of the film or video maker have, that to design which and where to cut or form the video.
After that, the professor taught us something about camera shooting. When we shot, we may decide how long, how big or small and how much should we shot. They are all about shot size. It is the framing of the subject.
Although I am not a professional photo taker, I have interest in photo taking and editing. Therefore, I will pay more attention in them.

It was the first lesson of Video editing. It made me quite interested and excited in it because I can learn how to use different video editing program and know how to evaluate a video or film professionally.
Although it was the first lesson, professor taught us lots of new ideas about video. Firstly, there are some that I had quite strong impression. There was an idea that, joining two shots together, they can create a third idea. For example, two shots have different idea inside, but if you join them together, it may mean another story. Just like, A+B=C.
Secondly, professor showed us a video that, the setting and facial expression are not the most important thing to create a video, the point is how is your video taking skills. For example, if you shot a man looking at a baby and laugh, he is a kind man. However, if you shot a man looking at a bikini girl, and laugh, he is a bad man.
Thirdly, in the lesson professor mentioned that there are three types of video. They are documentary, narrative and experimental. Documentary is about real event, and reality. Narrative is about story and fiction. Experimental is about individual subjection act of one person. Experimental is a very new idea for me. And I have great interest in it. I think it gives the audiences a large imagination space which is very special.
Fourth, professor showed us a old movie, which is a woman killed by a man in the bathroom. I learnt how beat, rhythm and pacing works. For example, the video maker took the water ran away though the whole. That means the woman was dying, life was leaving. And the music built tension also.
Finally, professor showed us a movie called LA VIE EN ROSE. I appreciate the flow of the movie that at the beginning the woman thinks her lover is alive but finally the film used the expression of other actors to showed that the man was died. And the woman ran to the stage and told the world her painful story. I think it is a fantastic movie which I would like to watch after class.
I think I have a fresh idea about this course, I hope I can learn more afterwords.
